Greetings from the staff of

McLeod Eco Farm and Historical Prison.

Experience an unforgettable part of Australia's ecological and cultural history, only 65Km from Melbourne!

·         Imagine what it would have been like to be locked up in French Island's famous historical prison, as you look around the original buildings.

·         Eat gourmet organic meals prepared by our fantastic chefs exclusively from farm-grown ingredients.

·         Rejuvenate within one of the very few accommodation sites in the world located entirely within a National Park.

·         See the world's largest disease-free koala population and rare and endangered flora and fauna, including Australia's most southerly mangrove wetlands.

·         Discover the wonders of nature through educational and recreational programs taught by qualified and experienced instructors to both adults and children

McLeod was originally established as a prison farm in 1916 and continued its operations until 1975.  After that it existed briefly as an educational children's camp operated by the Victorian Government.  But then, in December 1995, it was bought by Next Generation International and transformed into the showcase organic farm it is today (Read more about our philosophy here).

McLeod Eco Farm now offers a unique organic farm-stay experience: the prison infrastructure has been sensitively restored into comfortable and affordable accommodation right in the middle of French Island National Park.  Overnight visitors can choose between the luxury of the self-contained, private guesthouse accommodation (which sleeps up to 30 guests), or a stay in one of the renovated prison cells - each suitable for 1-2 people.

The location offers many advantages to large groups such as schools or clubs and up to 156 visitors can be accommodated.  The Recreation Hall is ideally suited to workshops or conferences, and there is enormous potential for outdoor activities and sport.  We are also very popular with couples and families seeking a retreat from the stress of the city.  Excellent fishing and swimming can be enjoyed on our secluded beach and there are bushwalking and mountain biking opportunities in the surrounding National Park.
